A Mongrel Series balanced interconnect cable, to convert 4.4mm TRRRS output to dual 3-pin XLR. This cable has a male 4.4mm TRRRS plug at one end, and the option of either male or female 3-pin Neutrik XLR's at the other. All contacts are gold plated, and unlike most of our other cables, this cable is made with 6 strands of wire in total, 3 for left and 3 for right.

Our Mongrel Series cables can be made with either a high purity 80-strand litz copper wire with a polyester filament (Litz), or a higher purity 100-strand silver plated copper wire with a soft Teflon coating (SPC). Both are similar in flexibility and tensile strength, though there are a few differences. The silver plated copper has a Teflon coating around the whole cable while the copper is litz so each strand has its own enamel coating with a polyester filament holding them together, the Teflon coating on the silver plated copper is better for audio but does make it slightly more rigid, while the litz wire is a bit more flexible. The litz copper has a larger gauge, as though there are fewer strands the strands are wider, while the silver plated copper has a higher purity and the copper inside is OCC (the litz copper is NOT OCC). The silver plated copper used in this cable is the same wire we use in our -PLUS range of headphone cables and will therefore sound the same in a like for like spec. Please be aware that if you order a length that is longer than your existing cable you may notice the sound is less clear or more round/warm by comparison, as the signal has further to travel as is affected more by things such as antenna effect etc.

For this specific Mongrel cable, it is still 4 strands of paracord but there are 6 strands of wire in total, owing to size limitations of the 4.4mm plug, but the cord still provides some insulation and customisation, while maintaining a high degree of flexibility. We have over 20 cord colours to choose from in our Mongrel series, and up to three colours can be selected. For this Mongrel Series there is no splitter option, and split length can be confirmed after order by email. The cable can be made to one of various lengths between 0.25-4m, with lengths above 0.25m costing more. The length is the total approximate length from connector end 1 to connector end 2 to within a few cm, and includes the length of the connector body. For information about how to correctly spec your cable including how our colour selection works please check out our cable specification guide.

For this cable, there is also choice of ring colours on the XLR end, with standard options of either plain black or the common black/red to indicate left/right. If you prefer something more custom, simply select 'other' and the reply to the order confirmation email with your choice for left and right. The full range is: black, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, grey, white. Please note the ring colours are not a perfect match for paracord colours of the same name, some may be a different tone or shade and look very different.

All our cables are soldered using lead-free silver solder (4% silver) to ensure the best quality joins for both signal and strength.
