A Mongrel Series audio adapter cable pair designed to convert existing commonly wired dual 4-pin mini-XLR cables, such as many variants of Audeze LCD and Meze Empyrean, for use on other headphones and connector types. It does this by using 2x male 4-pin mini-XLR connectors at one end, which attach to your existing cable, and new headphone connectors of your choice at the other to allow you to connect that cable to a new headphone that uses different connectors. The new headphone end connectors have the option for different coloured heat shrink (heat shrink colours may not be a perfect match to the cord colours, for example they may appear paler or in a different shade) or our printed L/R letter shrinks, if you select such an option it will apply only to the new headphone connectors and not to the male Rean mini-XLR's.

This adapter will work on a variety of dual 4-pin mini-XLR cables that are designed for headphones such as: Audeze LCD-2, LCD-3, LCD-4, LCD-4z, LCD-5, LCD-MX4, LCD-X, LCD-XC and MM-500 headphones, Meze Empyrean, most ZMF and Kennerton headphones, and some Fischer headphones including 'FA-011 10th Anniversary Edition'. HOWEVER, other dual 4-pin mini-XLR headphones may be incompatible with this listing due to using different wiring standards, therefore please check before ordering if your cable is for a different headphone not listed above as the warranty only applies for use on cables that are compatible with the above headphones.

Our Mongrel Series cables can be made with either a high purity 80-strand litz copper wire with a polyester filament (Litz), or a higher purity 100-strand silver plated copper wire with a soft Teflon coating (SPC). Both are similar in flexibility and tensile strength, though there are a few differences. The silver plated copper has a Teflon coating around the whole cable while the copper is litz so each strand has its own enamel coating with a polyester filament holding them together, the Teflon coating on the silver plated copper is better for audio but does make it slightly more rigid, while the litz wire is a bit more flexible. The litz copper has a larger gauge, as though there are fewer strands the strands are wider, while the silver plated copper has a higher purity and the copper inside is OCC (the litz copper is NOT OCC). The silver plated copper used in this cable is the same wire we use in our -PLUS range of headphone cables and will therefore sound the same in a like for like spec. While these differences can present audible differences for many users for such a short adapter listing like this there will not be much of a difference, however you may still want to match closest to whatever your existing cable is. Each wire core is sleeved individually inside 550 paracord, which provides the cable with additional strength, insulation and customised look, while maintaining a high degree of flexibility.
